MY FAVORITE FOOD - MUM’S COOKING

The food that I loved most is the food cooks by my dearest mum. Her passion, interest and joyfulness in cooking have made my mum the best chef that I ever known. I grew up eating her food that full of blessings. I remembered when I was young, my mum used to prepare oat with eggs for my daily breakfast. I guess you must be wondering what size I am now. Those who know me long will be able to evidence that I never slim before.

My mum is very creative and innovative in her cooking. Her original cooking is a combination of Cantonese and Hokkien style. She consistently trying out new recipe that she learnt from book, newspaper or television. Amazingly, despite never failing, she brings different taste or new appearance to the original one. She can be described as a cook magician. Sometimes, she cooked Malay, Indian and other cuisine style such “roti jala” and “rendang chicken”. This is the advantage of being Malaysian having different races staying together as one nation.

Her well known specialty food is the curry chicken that can increase someone appetite. Whoever tasted her curry chicken will never forget the aroma and definitely ask for more. The other variety cooking that we are fond of are “nasi lemak”, yam cake, popiah and so on. My mum is good in making desserts too, in Cantonese is called “tong sui”. Last time, in her early years, when she sold desserts at Penang, there was a rich lady who drove Mercedes, always dropped by to pack “bubur cacar”. The sweetness of the desserts makes them perfect.

Our relatives and friends are also enjoyed and love my mum’s cooking. They always admire and compliment about it. Lending from KFC’s motto “Finger Licking Good” is what they used to express. They will never miss the opportunity to experience her cooking. I have a friend who constantly says to me that she missed my mum’s special fried chicken. I think that unique taste has eventually stays in her mouth that she cannot forget. Sometimes, friends or relatives will ask my mum for her secret recipe which she never selfish in giving away or even sharing her cooking tips with others.

Friend and relative always suggest my mum to run food business such as operating restaurant or catering due to her awesome cooking and overwhelming response. However, my mum never has such intention but to become a good homemaker that I am pleased with. She prepares every meal for us without any single moan because she finds joy in cooking that will satisfy and delighted us. Similarly, she is happy too to be able to cooks for others.

She is a fantastic mother. She cooked based on our necessity and preference. She will ensure that we, as her family members are always well fed with good balanced diet and nutrition. She continuously puts her effort to learn up the benefits of the vegetable or herb that contribute to our healthy body. With my mum around, we will never go hungry. I think she would rather go hungry herself than letting us go hungry.

I wish myself are able to succeed at least 10% of her cooking talent. Like my mum, I love cooking and baking too. Together, both of us will explore and experiment various food. I did give a thought to start a food business particularly promoting my mum cooking that will give more people opportunity to enjoy her food. If you realize, it is always a pleasure to be able to make others happy with the food you prepared.

Today is Mother’s Day. In this special day, I would like to extend my gratitude towards her for being my caring and loving mother. Forever, she will be our blessings and the best mum in my life. She is the only chef that will never retire. I love you, mummy.
